Medical Readers' Theater: A Guide and Scripts by Todd L. Savitt, We have all had experiences with sickness, care giving, physicians, medical emergencies, hospitals, and doctors' offices. Health concerns are not solely the domain of medical students, physicians, or nurses -- we all deal with our personal well-being and the health of our loved ones on a daily basis. Sometimes these health problems cause us to consider larger social and ethical issues. How do we respond and relate to such matters? In order to help both lay people and medical professionals consider various health care issues, East Carolina University's Brody School of Medicine developed a medical readers' theater program. Compiled for the first time in a single text, Medical Readers' Theater: A Guide and Scripts provides a vehicle for those who wish to engage in discussions among citizens and professionals about important, topical issues in contemporary medicine. Consisting of fourteen readers' theater scripts, a step-by-step guide to performing readers' theater, and questions for post-performance discussions, this volume utilizes stories by William Carlos Williams, Susan Onthank Mates, Arthur Conan Doyle, Pearl Buck, and many more. Physician/patient relationships, organ donation, chronic illness, race and ethnicity, death and dying, and aging are just a few of the topics covered in this valuable text. Medical Readers' Theater can be used in classrooms, hospitals, libraries, or other community settings where citizens can consider views on issues of common concern in the medical world.
The Longman Anthology of Drama and Theater: A Global Perspective, Compact Edition by Michael L. Greenwald, Divided into three parts, this brief, chronologically-organized, fully-integrated drama anthology offers a global emphasis and extensive critical and historical material of 23 indispensable plays. No other anthology offers such a richly varied selection from the traditional Western canon, Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. This anthology contains many examples of rituals, ceremonies, and folk customs. The role of the storyteller is examined and chronicled to illustrate the impulses that have prompted humans to create theater. Center Stage Essays present dramatic descriptions of special performances, in many cases, the first performance of a well-known play. Spotlight Essays identify and discuss the wide variety of staging conventions of particular theaters. Forum Essays present important critical documents by critics, theoreticians, and theater artists. Lavish maps and annotated timelines familiarize the reader with different cultures and periods. Each play is introduced by a thorough headnote; each includes in-depth biographical information about the playwright and the historical context of the play. Photographs and illustrations help the reader visualize the performance of the play they are reading. For anyone interested in drama and theater.
Bay Theater - The Bay Theatre is a single-screen movie theater in Seal Beach, California, best known for its screenings of foreign and independent films, and for its revival screenings. The Bay Theater is also home to a Wurlitzer Organ which is used for concerts and silent film screenings. Reed organ - A reed organ, also called parlor organ, pump organ, cabinet organ, cottage organ, is an organ that generates its sounds using free metal reeds. So as for the generation of its tones, a reed organ is similar to an accordion, but not in its installation, as an accordion is held in both hands whereas a reed organ is usually positioned on the floor in a wooden casing (which might make it mistakable for a piano at the very first glimpse). Byrd Theatre - The Byrd Theatre is a movie theater on Cary Street in Richmond, Virginia. Characterized by its old-fashioned marquee and organ player, the Byrd Theatre draws many students and locals for its $1 movies. Organ tablature - Organ tablature is a form of musical notation used by the north German Baroque organ school, although there are also forms of organ tablature from other countries such as Italy, Spain, and England. Portions of Johann Sebastian Bach's OrgelbĂĽchlein are written in tablature, as are a great deal of the surviving manuscripts of the organ works of Dieterich Buxtehude and other north German organ composers of the Baroque era.
